Learn to SUP!

Stand up paddle boarding (SUP) is one of the worlds fastest growing sports.  It's fun, offers a great work out incorporating balance, strength and flexibility, and is a unique way to explore our natural surroundings.  

Milton Country Park is an accredited school with the British Stand Up Paddle Association (BSUPA) and offers plenty of opportunities for you to experience SUP, whether you're a complete beginner, have tried it before and want to progress, or you're an experienced paddle boarder looking for some time on the water.  

Learning to SUP is easy and our qualified instructors will have you on a board and paddling in no time!  

Please note there is a minimum required height of 1.3m

Ready to Ride and Born to Ride Courses

Adult Level 1 BSUPA Ready to Ride.
Alternate Saturdays, 10am-12.30pm.
£50 per person.

Children Level 1 BSUPA Born to Ride.
Alternate Saturdays 10am-12.30pm.
£50 per person.
As a guide we recommend 10-16 years and minimum height 1.3m. 

These courses will teach you:

  • Launch and recovery
  • Setting up your paddleboard and leash
  • Safe fall and return to shore
  • A good, basic paddle stroke
  • Different turn techniques
  • Competance and confidence on the water
  • Understanding the effects of the weather 

Upon successful completion of the course you will be awarded a BSUPA accredited pass.  This will allow you to hire a board and paddle independently at Milton Country Park's club and social sessions and at any other accredited centre in the UK.

Quick Start Sessions

Our one hour Quick Start Sessions offer you the chance to learn the basics of paddle boarding, including safety, equipment and basic strokes.  Lessons are fun and friendly and designed for all abilities, whether you have no experience or just want a refresher session on the water.

Saturday morning Quick Start Sessions (45 mins)
Alternate Saturdays, 10am & 11.15am
£15 per person
No age limit. Min height: 1.3m

Group and Party Bookings

Paddle boarding is a perfect activity to enjoy as a group, whether for a Hen or Stag do, a birthday party, school group, Brownies, Scouts, team building or simply with family and friends.

Why not book a session on the water then hire the Dell, our private party space, and dry off by the campfire!

6 persons plus one instructor: £120/hour
12 persons plus two instructors: £220/hour

Individual Hire

If you have been awarded a BSUPA accredited pass you may be able to arrange individual hire of a paddle board for use on the lake by prior arrangement.  

Cambridge SUP Club 

New for 2017.  Cambridge SUP Club is an independent club offering sessions for those with a BSUPA Ready to Ride or Born to Ride pass to come and enjoy time on the lake.
This is an unstructured session to give you a chance to freestyle!
The club will develop a broader range of activities and social events as it progresses.

Saturdays 10am-11am  
(Until the end of October, tbc thereafter)
£10 inc. board hire or £5 with own board.
Under 16s £5 or £2.50 with own board. (Must have a Born to Ride pass and be accompanied by an adult.)
Payment on arrival.

*Please note that due to water temperatures these sessions are for experienced paddle boarders only and wetsuits are compulsory.

SUP Fitness

Take your work out to the water and enjoy a fitness class with a difference!  SUP Fitness is a challenging exercise class combining paddle boarding, balance and yoga.  
Ditch the gym, work your whole body and improve your core-stability, with the added benefit of a beautiful lake setting.
We ask that you have attended a minimum of a Quick Start session and feel confident on a board and in water.

Saturdays 8.30am-9.30am
£10 per person.
Payment on arrival.

More Information

  • Please arrive ten minutes before your session time.
  • Sessions are located at the pontoon on Todd's Pit.  Follow the path to the left of the Visitor Centre, just a short walk from the car park.
  • Wear clothing suitable for the weather.  Light, quick dry items which are not too baggy are best, for example clothing you might wear to a gym or for running.
  • Shoes are not necessary, but if you wish to wear them neoprene are recommended.  
  • SUP is a water sport and you are likely to get wet!  Bring a towel and a change of appropriate dry clothes.  
  • Please note there are no changing facilities at the park.  Changing is in a gated area on the bank.  We also have toilets located in the car park and the Visitor Centre.
