You may remember that we mentioned the Rangers were organising tree dressing the Park last Sunday. We didn't have any more details than that and the event seemed to be rather under-advertised. Usually SCDC's press office slaps out a press release for any Park event and the local papers pick it up. Not this time though. The only notice we had of it was a poster we noticed in the Park.
A couple of days before a mailing went out to the Friends of Milton Country Park asking for help running the café in support on an event in the Park - but there was no real explanation as to what it was.
So on Sunday we were out for a walk and thought we'd go up and look what was happening. We found a far bigger event going on ... for some values of "bigger". There was a largish tent providing some cover from the rain, a fiddler was playing their fiddle, Malcolm was story telling, and people dressed up were wandering around. There was a long hand written notice on some cardboard explaining what was going on.
But there was next to no one there. It was a pretty dire day anyway, wet and grey, but there had been no publicity for this as far as we're aware and by the time we wandered by it looked like it was running out of steam.
We hope the people involved had fun but it did seem like an opportunity missed to draw people into the Park.
