swans and winter pruning

Today's afternoon walk brought mixed news. On the plus side we came across the swan family. These days you seldom see them all together as the cygnets are growing up and seldom hang around with mum and dad (just like teenagers then really!) but today they'd all got together under the single bridge at the top of Dickerson's as someone had been feeding them.

Meanwhile just east of the bridge the Rangers have been hacking back the shrubs there for reasons which aren't entirely clear given that they no longer need to keep the bridge in the sun (as the deck is now plastic rather than wood).

This area had blackberries in it from what we can remember. Let's hope they survive this.
